Famine 1848 Walk, 28 July 2007. William Smith O'Brien, M.P.

There will be a Public Walk commemorating the Great Famine, and the 1848 Rising which took place in the middle of the Famine, in Ballingarry, Co Tipperary. The Walk is being held on Saturday, 28 July 2007 at 3pm. The Walk will travel from the Young Ireland and 1848 national flag monument in the village of The Commons to the Famine Warhouse 1848, an OPW national monument and visitor attraction, which was the scene of the 1848 Rising led by William Smith O'Brien, M.P. The distance of the Walk is one-and-a-half miles and it will be covered at a gentle pace. The Walk will remember all those who died during the Great Famine and the 1848 Rising. Walkers and visitors will have an opportunity to see the Exhibition in the Famine Warhouse 1848. All are welcome to attend. See also www.Ballingarry.net
